Historique :	Borne commémorative de calcul du mètre-étalon. Le mètre-étalon est égal à la dix millionième partie du quart du méridien terrestre. Ce calcul fut entrepris de 1792 à 1798 et fut effectué en deux parties : au nord, de Dunkerque à Rodez, confié à l'astronome Jean-Baptiste Delambre (1749-1822) ; au sud, de Barcelone à Rodez, confié à l'astronome Pierre Méchain (1744-1804). Cent triangles furent ainsi mesurés de Dunkerque à Barcelone et l'on choisit deux bases de références de 6000 toises chacune, l'une entre Lieusaint et Melun pour le nord, l'autre entre Vernet et Salses pour le sud.
