Historique :	Le tableau est attribué à Antoine Bouzonnet-Stella par M. Sylvain Kerspern, qui a dressé le catalogue des oeuvres du peintre d'après Guillet de Saint-Georges, dont Bouzonnet-Stella fut professeur-adjoint à l'Académie de peinture et de sculpture de 1680 à 1682, et d'après le testament et inventaire de la soeur du peintre. Le tableau a été identifié avec le tableau peint "pour un autel (...) à Bois-Boudran, en Champagne" dans l'ouvrage de Guillet (p.426). Il aurait été peint pour Claude de Meaux, veuve de Philippe de Brichanteau. Il se trouve à Sognolles-en-Montois depuis 1878 au moins. L'identification du peintre pour ce tableau a été permise par le biais du dessin "La Cène" (Louvre, inv.12508) conservé au Louvre, qui présente de nombreuses similitudes avec le tableau.
