Historique :	Oeuvre inaugurée en 1930 et offerte par le Comité du Monument Jeanne d'Arc - Chapu, pour célébrer le passage de Jeanne d'Arc à Melun. Il s'agit d'une réplique exécutée en 1872, dont l'original en marbre est à Orsay (dans un premier temps conservé à l'école d'Amboise). Il existe un autre exemplaire à Belfort, et un plâtre de 1870 est conservé au musée Chapu du Mée. Pour le marbre du square Chapu, la duchesse d'Uzès siégeait dans le Comité pour le choix du sculpteur, c'est Saulot qui a été désigné. Le socle en pierre a été offert par l'entreprise Desgranges.
