Historique :	Par comparaison stylistique avec l'Annonciation (Notre-Dame de Bercy) datée de 1659, et la Nativité datée 1669, on peut situer l'œuvre dans les années 1660.

Précision_sur la representation :	Il s'agit d'une iconographie rare et difficile à interpréter, qui gravite autour du dogme de l'Immaculée Conception. Une réplique, conservée au carmel de Tours est consacrée au même thème. Elle permet d'établir un lien entre ce motif virginal et la Vierge de l'Espérance, très populaire en Espagne et véhiculée par l'ordre du Carmel. Ce thème rappelle celui, byzantin de la playtera, où Jésus s'inscrit. Cette iconographie était interdite pendant le Concile de Trente.
